A new grouping of Dwelling Sculptures (including the Peace Dwellings seen above) are not on view at the Left Bank Gallery located at 25 Commercial Street in Wellfleet, MA.

Established in 1971, Left Bank Gallery at 25 Commercial Street, Wellfleet, is spacious, unconfined, and tactile. A continuously rotating collection of paintings - from lyrical abstract to “plein air” realism, all with the power of engaging the viewer - are punctuated by lofty, gestural mobiles.

Acting on the idea that art should be part of our living environments, owner Audrey Sherwin Parent pairs canvases and sculptures with functional ware for the home. Individual spaces are designed with handcrafted lighting, vessels and furniture.

Along with the dwelling series, The Left Bank Gallery will also have on view the Lunar Abstract series. A series of porcelain and oil wall sculptures. For more information on The Left Bank Gallery click here.

I am honored to be included in The State of Clay 2009. Juror Jim Lawton of UMass Dartmouth selected 80 pieces from 285 entries. Below is an excerpt from his jury statement:

” I was charged with gathering a group of work representative of the State of Clay in Massachusetts. The opportunity came with the 285 entries from 106 artists working quite broadly across the ceramic spectrum: functional to sculptural vessels, wall based pictorial and dimensional work, some figurative and those pieces always- delightfully, defy category.
When I look at work I want to be moved- to be challenged by what the work has to say and the quality, materiality of how it says it. I appreciate the terrifying and the beautiful, the nuanced and the bold, the whimsical and the serious – a heart that beats. I was not dissappointed…”
- Jim Lawton, Professor of Ceramics, UMass Dartmouth

Lunar Abstract Tryptch shown above will be part of this biennial show. The show opens Sunday, March 29 at 3:00pm and runs from March 31 to April 25. For more information visit the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society site.

For 28 years the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA) has hosted the annual December Sale, an art sale and fundraiser for student scholarships. Featuring work by hundreds of established and emerging artists each year—including internationally known SMFA alumni and faculty, current students, and affiliated artists—the Sale has become the largest public art sale in New England, grossing over $1.1 million in 2007.

While the event has become an important program of the School, its name has never fully represented what we are about: fostering the education of artists through creative investigation, risk-taking, and individual vision. Nor has its name conveyed the dynamic interchange the Sale has encouraged and promoted between the School’s community of artists and the public at large.

To reflect this and to expand our presence in the New England arts community, we are pleased to announce a new name and new dates for our annual event: InsideOut: The Museum School Art Sale, November 19–23, 2008.

Whether you are a budding or experienced art collector, aspire to participate in the development of a young artist’s career, or are simply curious about the School, we welcome you to explore InsideOut.
